Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the film’s set on October 21, 2021. At a ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Baldwin was pointing a gun at Hutchins when it went off, killing Hutchins and wounding the director, Joel Souza. They had been inside a small church during setup for filming a scene. Law enforcement officials have now released a trove of video evidence in the ongoing investigation of the fatal shooting of a cinematographer by actor and producer Alec Baldwin on the set of the Western movie. Data files released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office include lapel camera recordings taken by a commanding officer as he arrives at a film-set ranch where medics are attending to the wounded, with an evacuation helicopter whirring overhead. A search for the gun leads to the movie production's armorer, who breaks down in tears. Other videos show investigators as they debriefing Baldwin within hours of the fatal shooting, talking with him inside a compact office - and rehearsal clips that show Baldwin in costume as he practices a quick-draw maneuver with a gun. There are also hundreds of photos taken on the set that show the bloody crime scene as well as the blood stained clothing of Hutchins and Souza. Dozens of photos show the scene inside the church after paramedics desperately tried to revive Hutchins – with blood on the floor as well as red-stained medical supplies. There is bloody clothing on the floor, Hutchins’ beanie hat as well as blood stained scripts. There are also images of shell casings on the ground inside and outside of the small church where they had been filming. Maailmaa kohahdutti lokakuussa 2021 tapaus, jossa kuvaaja Halyna Hutchins kuoli aseonnettomuudessa Rust-lännenelokuvan kuvauksissa New Mexicossa. Pääosan esittäjän Alec Baldwinin kohtausharjoituksessa käyttämässä aseessa olikin paukkupanoksen sijaan oikea luoti.

Tapausta on tutkittu kaikki nämä vuodet, ja nyt asiasta on annettu ensimmäinen tuomio. Keskiviikkona 6. maaliskuuta santafeläisen oikeusistuimen valamiehistö päätti, että Rustin asemestari Hannah Gutierrez-Reed on syyllinen kuolemantuottamukseen.

Uusi käänne Rush-elokuvan ampumatragediassa – Alec Baldwinille uusia syytteitä?

12-henkisen valamiehistön jäsen Alberto Sanchez kertoi, että päätös syyllisyydestä oli helppo tehdä. Oikeusistunnossa tuotiin esiin useita seikkoja, joissa Gutierrez-Reed oli toiminut huolimattomasti.

– Hänen työnään oli tarkistaa aseiden ja ammusten turvallisuus, Sanchez kommetoi käsittelyn jälkeen.

Nyt oikeusistuin on siis vain todennut Gutierrez-Reedin syyllisyyden. Käsittely jatkuu huhtikuussa, jolloin määrätään varsinainen tuomio. New York Timesin mukaan Gutierrez-Reediä uhkaa enimmillään 18 kuukauden vankeus.

Myös Baldwinia epäillään kuolemantuottamuksesta. Hänen oikeuskäsittelynsä alkaa ensi heinäkuussa.
